    Efficient channel estimation using TCH codes

    In this paper, we consider the use of TCH codes to perform channel estimation in an OFDM system, using either data multiplexed pilots or superimposed pilots over the data. TCH codes possess several properties that allow us to use them efficiently in various applications which includes channel estimation, as we address in this paper. With this objective, several performance results were obtained through simulations which allowed the evaluation of the impact of different pilot power levels and modulations, as well as the comparison of TCH against other conventional pilots.     Robust joint synchronization and channel estimation approach for frequency-selective environments

    Supporting spontaneous low-latency machine type communications requires fast synchronization and channel estimation at the receiver. The problems of synchronizing the received frame and estimating the channel coefficients are often addressed separately with the later one relying on accurate timing acquisition. While these conventional approaches can be adequate in flat fading environments, time dispersive channels can have a negative impact on both tasks and severely degrade the performance of the receiver. To circumvent this large degradation, in this paper we consider the use of a sparse based reconstruction approach for joint timing synchronization and channel estimation by formulating the problem in a form that is closely related to Compressive Sensing(CS) framework. Using modified versions of well-known sparse reconstruction techniques, which can take into account the additional signal structure in addition to sparsity, it is shown through numerical simulations that, even with short training sequences, excellent timing synchronization and channel estimation performance can be achieved, both in single user and multiuser scenarios.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Overview of the JET ITER-like wall divertor

    The work presented draws on new analysis of components removed following the second JET ITER-like wall campaign 2013–14 concentrating on the upper inner divertor, inner and outer divertor corners, life- time issues relating to tungsten coatings on JET carbon fibre composite divertor tiles and dust/particulate generation. The results show that the upper inner divertor remains the region of highest deposition in the JET-ILW. Variations in plasma configurations between the first and second campaign have altered ma- terial migration to the corners of the inner and outer divertor. Net deposition is shown to be beneficial in the sense that it reduces W coating erosion, covers small areas of exposed carbon surfaces and even encapsulates particles.EURATOM 633053RCUK Energy Programme EP/I50104

    Reassessment of tritium content in CFC tiles exposed to the JET D-T campaign in 1997

    In 2019 two MkIIA divertor tiles (6IN3 and 4BN4) exposed during DTE1 were retrieved at CCFE for Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy (TDS) and pyrolysis analyses. A set of samples were prepared using a coring technique. The highest tritium (T) inventories were found in the shadowed corner of the inner divertor due to asymmetric deposition. TDS analyses indicated that T is desorbed at rather high temperatures with maximum release peaks at ∼590 and 820 °C. A few samples were reannealed at 850 °C using the same heating procedure and it turned out that a further ∼40–50 % of T was still released indicating that the annealing procedure used does not empty the sample completely. Pyrolysis results for thin disks cut from the surface of the tile were somewhat higher than the corresponding TDS results. T amounts were also investigated as a function of depth from the tile surface up to a depth of ∼4.5 mm and T was detected at these depths. Comparison was also made with old results obtained with the pyrolysis technique and a PIN-diode method a few years after the DTE1 experiment, allowing for the natural decay and off-gassing of T. Our results agree within a factor of ∼3 with these results

    Direct observation of mono-vacancy and self-interstitial recovery in tungsten

    Reliable and accurate knowledge of the physical properties of elementary point defects is crucial for predictive modeling of the evolution of radiation damage in materials employed in harsh conditions. We have applied positron annihilation spectroscopy to directly detect mono-vacancy defects created in tungsten through particle irradiation at cryogenic temperatures, as well as their recovery kinetics. We find that efficient self-healing of the primary damage takes place through Frenkel pair recombination already at 35 K, in line with an upper bound of 0.1 eV for the migration barrier of self-interstitials. Further self-interstitial migration is observed above 50 K with activation energies in the range of 0.12-0.42 eV through the release of the self-interstitial atoms from impurities and structural defects and following recombination with mono-vacancies. Mono-vacancy migration is activated at around 550 K with a migration barrier of E-m(V) = 1.85 +/- 0.05 eV. (C) 2019 Author(s).Peer reviewe

    CDKN2A deletion is the most frequent genetic alteration in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL), occurring across all molecular and immunophenotypic subtypes. CDKN2A encodes two functionally unrelated tumor suppressor proteins, ARF and INK4a, which are critical regulators of cell cycle and proliferation. Arf has been reported to suppress T-ALL development in post−b-selection thymocytes, but whether CDKN2A acts as a tumor suppressor gene in immature, pre−b-selection thymocytes remains to be elucidated.     Assessment of erosion, deposition and fuel retention in the JET-ILW divertor from ion beam analysis data

    Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Plasma Surface Interactions 2016, 22nd PSI.Post-mortem analyses of individual components provide relevant information on plasma-surface interactions like tungsten erosion, beryllium deposition and plasma fuel retention with divertor tiles via implantation or co-deposition. Ion Beam techniques are ideal tools for such purposes and have been extensively used for post-mortem analyses of selected tiles from JET following each campaign. In this contribution results from tiles removed from the JET ITER-Like Wall (JET-ILW) divertor following the 2013–2014 campaign are presented. The results summarize erosion, deposition and fuel retention along the poloidal cross section of the divertor surface and provide data for comparison with the first JET-ILW campaign, showing a similar pattern of material migration with the exception of Tile 6 where the strike point time on the tile was ∼ 4 times longer in 2013–2014 than in 2011–2012, which is likely to account for more material migration to this region. The W deposition on top of the Mo marker coating of Tile 4 shows that the enrichment takes place at the strike point location.Peer reviewe

    Deposition of impurity metals during campaigns with the JET ITER-like Wall

    Post mortem analysis shows that mid and high atomic number metallic impurities are present in deposits on JET plasma facing components with the highest amount of Ni and W, and therefore the largest sink, being found at the top of the inner divertor. Sources are defined as "continuous" or "specific", in that "continuous" sources arise from ongoing erosion from plasma facing surfaces and specific" are linked with specific events which decrease over time until they no longer act as a source. This contribution evaluates the sinks and estimates sources and the balance gives an indication of the dominating processes. Charge exchange neutral erosion is found to be the main source of nickel, whereas erosion of divertor plasma facing components is the main source of tungsten. Specific sources are shown to have little influence over the global mid- and high-Z impurity concentrations in deposits.EURATOM 633053RCUK Energy Programme EP/I50104
